Now I wrote a second version for this effect because so many people were e-mailing me (and I thank you all), about, "How do I make it choose the letter faster?", or "why doesn't it work?", or "why can't I use numbers?", etc.
Well I made this tutorial to make answering those questions easier, as well as a better and more efficient way of making this effect (wait, there's efficiency involved in flash??? yes.).

Outline Effect
written by ilyas usal a.k.a. pom
I got this effect from a very good French Flasher. I found the code on his site, flasheur.com , broke it down, and improved it a little bit, all this just for you.
You'll find that in this tutorial, I also took the code from the Random motion tutorial, that I use the swapDepths and duplication functions, and a lot of actionscript-based motion

ActionScript Text Animation
E.J. aka IamNotJubba
This effect will allow you to animate text using actionscript. It takes less work than tweening and will drop your load time. Before we start, you must have a decent knowledge of manipulating movie clips, and a basic knowledge of actionscript. Since this effect animates the text using actionscript there will be quite a bit of actionscript involved, but I will explain each line at the end of the tutorial.

Creating some code for a forum member, I came up with this idea. It uses the Grid tutorial by Ilyas Usal. It can be used as effect on images, it can fade from left to right and from bottom to top, and it can even be used for preloaders. But how do you create it ? You're about to find out.

Advanced Rollovers
The button rollovers and simple text effects do not provide the level of control you need for creating killer animations. Using Tell Target with a Button can create navigational elements with custom rollover effects that are simple yet aesthetically appealing. Before we begin, please make sure you have a basic understanding of how to use the following technique.

Now I don't know what you think about all this, but so far, recursion has been a pretty exhausting process for your fingers. That's why we are going to forget about that manual recursion, and automate it

During your course of Flashing, you may have added sounds the old-fashioned way. You would probably have added the sounds by adding them to a frame and looping them 999 times. You are no longer a beginner Flasher. You have to move away from relying on frames and, instead, rely on using ActionScript for your sound needs.

Mouse Actions
by kirupa chinnathambi
Ever since the nocturnal, pseudo-mammals known as Flash developers found that animations could be manipulated by using the mouse, the world was never again the same - for the Flash developers that is.

The following animation is a chaotic fractal tree that is different from the previous example in the fractal tree tutorial. Keep clicking in the animation, and you will find various randomly generated branches.
Here, I just threw in as many Math.random() statements as I could: a random number of sub-branches, a random angle, and a random shrinking ratio. Click the scene to regenerate :)

A common observation users made on this site when migrating from Flash 5 to Flash MX is that some of the animations that worked in Flash 5 no longer work in Flash MX. One such animation was the popular Random Motion tutorial. Of course, an answer was right around the corner (on the forums!) Just as with the Flash 5 Random Movement code, suprabeener was more than kind enough to share his expertise in making the code work in Flash MX. So, thank you supra!

A common feature that you can see on many Flash sites is the pop-up window. While this site features several tutorials on creating variations of the pop-up window, this one is a little bit different; it is centered. You click a button and the new window opens in the center of your screen regardless of your resolution.

One thing that I have always been thankful for was the great people who help keep the site's content fresh and engaging. More often than not, I have often been inspired to write a tutorial based on a user's post on the forum. This tutorial is no exception. This tutorial would not be possible without the help of the great moderator sbeener (suprabeener in the old forums). He was more than kind enough to share a more efficient version of a photo gallery that I created, and his version is what you will be duly pleased with at the end of completing this tutorial.
