Advantages and Disadvantages of Frames  By dotnetwatch

Rate It  | Review
I've kept away from using frames in any of my work where possible. As much as I like some of the features that frames offer, such as a static header area and side menu bar, there is still a number of negative aspects to their use. The idea of changing a menu system on my sites by altering one page is a very attractive prospect, especially now that I'm am carrying out a behind-the-scenes revamp of Taming the Beast.net . The weeks I have spent changing the coding on a couple of hundred pages could have been carried out in a couple of days, if I had used frames. But there are other ways to achieve rapid site updates without using frames (a subject of a future article) and those methods will be implemented in Taming the Beast.net Version II, due for release in December 2001

I remember my very first website. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever created; it had Flash, Javascript, an animated graphic I designed all on my own, plus various bits of 'artwork' placed at strategic locations throughout the site.

21 Reasons Why The Next Site I Visit Could Be Yours  By dotnetwatch

Rate It  | Review
You spend so much time promoting YOUR site, but why, exactly, do YOU VISIT someone else's? The other day, I re-visited all of the sites I had been to that week (using Internet Explorer's History option). I asked myself the simple question: "Why did I visit that site?" And I came up with 21, yes 21!, reasons why I visited a particular web site.

The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) states that service providers must not discriminate against disabled people. A website is regarded as a service and therefore falls under this law, and as such must be made accessible to everyone.

A More Accessible Pop-Up Window  By dotnetwatch

Rate It  | Review
More and more commercial websites are featuring pop-ups these days. In many instances, I'm noticing more pop-ups being used for advertising, probably due to the harsh reality that is "banner blindness". In other cases, pop-ups are used to display supplemental content to the parent page. Unfortunately, many designers know little about how to make a proper pop-up window that will be accessible.
