Water, Fire and Smoke Effects Using Particles and Opacity Ma  By vertextemplates

Rate It  | Review
Water, Fire and Smoke Effects Using Particles and Opacity Maps Learn how to use particles and Opacity maps to create smoke, fire or water using 3d studio max First we need some particles. In general, start by creating a super spray particle system. Then start changing parameters. Both Off-Axis and Off-Plane spreads should be numbers between 10-20. This will let the particles spread out a bit after they're launched from the emitter. Adjust the particle rate and speed for whatever effect you're trying to achieve. Rushing water is fast, smoke is slow, fire somewhere in between. Remember to add some variation.

Photo Gallery Using XML and Flash  By kirupa

Rate It  | Review
It is time for another photo gallery tutorial! This one is a little more advanced than the other photo gallery tutorial on this site. So, now, what would make me write another tutorial on a topic that has already been covered? The answer is easier maintenance! In the earlier photo gallery tutorial, if you wanted to add an extra image, you had to manually edit the FLA file and add the image's name to the array. That usually requires a few more steps such as uploading a new SWF and a possible renaming the file and embed paths to avoid browser caching. In this version, if you want to add another image to your photo gallery, all you have to do is edit an XML file. Your photo gallery automatically incorporates your addition without you having to even touch the FLA. In the long run, you may find that the time you save in adding or editing existing images is worth more than your time in going through this tutorial. Plus, this version of the tutorial accommodates captions for your images. Everybody loves captions

Simulating Car Motion Using Reactor (Wheel)  By WatchandLearnPhotoshop

Rate It  | Review
Reactor is a powerful tool that comes with 3d Studio Max, it makes it possible to simulate realistic dynamics based on physically-defined properties, such as hard body, soft body, cloth, and liquid. It can simulate the reaction occurring when a box falling from a high place hits the ground. This could be compared to all the time required to do the same effect using keyframes, and that wouldn't still give us a realistic animation similar to the one possible to create using reactor. This tutorial will teach you how to simulate car motion using the Wheel Reactor. The video below features the result that we are going to create in this tutorial.

 BlobMesh: Simulating Water  By xedium3d

Rate It  | Review
BlobMesh: Simulating Water This tutorial shows you how to take advantage of BlobMesh to create some very neat water effects. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use BlobMesh, or metaballs as they are commonly called, to make a fountain of water. BlobMesh is a new feature of 3ds max 6 that's essentially metaballs. Metaballs are lots of sphere-like objects, but when you put them close together, they will join together. Example: if two blobs of water a floating together in space and they get near each other, they will merge into one blob. Of course, real water would be attracted to each other, but that is not simulated very well here.

Using Blend Shape for Facial Expressions  By alfredstate

Using Blend Shape for Facial Expressions In this file we will go over using blend shape for facial expressions. This is an extremely easy and effective way to enhance you animations. My name is Larry Neuberger and I am a professor at Alfred State College in Alfred NY. I created these handouts to use in my classes and most of my students found them to be helpful. I now decided to submit them to be published on the web hoping they can help others as well. In this file we will go over using blend shape for facial expressions. This is an extremely easy and effective way to enhance you animations. First we want to duplicate the mouse once for each expression or partial expression you want. (Fig. 1.) This depends on how much you want to control the face. You can have a head sculpted for individual expressions (I.E. happy, sad, angry, etc.), or you could have a duplicated head for individual body parts, which you can combine for more detailed expressions (I.E. raised eye brow, smile, from, grin, lowered brow, etc.). For this example I will simply sculpt a few individual body part expressions. Two for the eyes (open and squint) and two for the mouth (open and smile), which I can combine to get different facial expressions.

If you ever wanted too attach a button to a shirt on a character you've most likely found out there is no straight forward way to do this in Maya What you want is the button to follow alone with the surface as it deforms, this deformation can be any method in Maya, softBind, ridgedBind, softbodys, cloth etc....... I'll discuss different methods of doing this based on; The surface type ie...polys, nurbs and subD's: In Maya tools vs mel, plugs-ins and scripts: Pros and cons of each method:

Muscle deformations and Facial Expressions Blend Shape and Set Driven Key are two excellent tools for deformations and facial expressions. In the following file we will go over in detail how to use these tools to the best of their advantages to create better animations and poses. My name is Larry Neuberger and I am a professor at Alfred State College in Alfred NY. I created these handouts to use in my classes and most of my students found them to be helpful. I now decided to submit them to be published on the web hoping they can help others as well. Blend Shape and Set Driven Key are two excellent tools for deformations and facial expressions. In the following file we will go over in detail how to use these tools to the best of their advantages to create better animations and poses. First we will go over using blend shape and set driven key for muscle deformations. Then we will go over using just blend shape for facial expressions. Blend Shape and Set Driven Key for Muscle deformations The best way to demonstrate the benefit of these tools is to show you how to control the flexing of a characters’ muscles without having to set keyframes for individual objects or doing any unnecessary extra work. NOTE: for best results using blend shape, do all work BEFORE binding the skeleton. If you use blend shape after binding the skeleton, your results will not be accurate and deformations will not update correctly.

 Flawless Flesh  By digitalphotoguides

Flawless Flesh This tutorial will show you how to hide blemishes and bad lighting when taking shots of your friends and family. With a bit of work you can make them look just like models! Achieving a natural looking smooth flesh tone is one of the many Holy Grail’s of commercial retouchers. Most retouchers develop their own individual methods but these usually rely heavily on Gaussian Blur which is a big mistake as it more often than not destroys too much of the natural detail. The method described below has been used successfully for many years for clients such as Prada, Selfridges and Laura Ashley and is very flexible even to the extent of working on surfaces that require smoothing other than flesh such as ceramics, chrome, fabrics etc.

 XLinks  By only4gurus

Linking in XML is divided into two parts, XLink and XPointers. XLink, the XML Linking Language, defines how one document links to another document. XPointer, the XML Pointer Language, defines how individual parts of a document are addressed. An XLink points to a URI (in practice, a URL) that specifies a particular resource. This URI may include an XPointer part that more specifically identifies the desired part or section of the targeted resource or document. This paper explores XLinks.

Transitions Between External SWFs  By kirupa

Rate It  | Review
Many people use external swfs these days, because they are a very good way to keep a site structured and manageable, and also because they keep the file size low. These swfs also divide a site into sections: each external swf stands for a section. These movies are dynamically loaded into the main movie when entering a section of the site. But a question that gets asked a lot lately is how to create smooth yet functional transitions between these external swfs? That’s what this tutorial will cover.

Creating VB database applications using ADO control  By vbtutor

Rate It  | Review
Creating VB database applications using ADO control Data control is not a very flexible tool as it could work only with limited kinds of data and must work strictly in the Visual Basic environment. To overcome these limitations, we can use a much more powerful data control in VB known as ADO control. In Lesson 19 and Lesson 20, we have learned to build VB database applications using data control. However, data control is not a very flexible tool as it could work only with limited kinds of data and must work strictly in the Visual Basic environment. To overcome these limitations, we can use a much more powerful data control in VB known as ADO control. ADO stands for ActiveX data objects. As ADO is ActiveX-based, it could work in different platforms (different computer systems) and different programming languages. Besides, it could access many different kinds of data such as data displayed in the Internet browsers, email text and even graphics other than the usual relational and non relational database information. To be able to use ADO data control, you need to insert it into the toolbox. To do this, simply press Ctrl+T to open the components dialog box and select Microsoft ActiveX Data Control 6. After this, you can proceed to build your ADO-based VB database applications. The following example will illustrate how to build a relatively powerful database application using ADO data control. First of all, name the new form as frmBookTitle and change its caption to Book Tiles- ADO Application. Secondly, insert the ADO data control and name it as adoBooks and change its caption to book. Next, insert the necessary labels, text boxes and command buttons. The runtime interface of this program is shown in the diagram below, it allows adding and deletion as well as updating and browsing of data.

 Managing INI files  By andreavb

Rate It  | Review
Managing INI files How to create, read and write an INI file from Visual Basic 6 Hello y'all. It's a long time that in the italian VB newsgroups periodically appears a thread asking how we can write and read the INI files. I always post the same solution: two little functions of mine, that belong from a code I found somewhere in andreavb.com. My answer is always the same - and often they give me the same grateful reply - but threads expire after some time in newsgroups, so I'm afraid one of these days I can't post anymore the bare tinyurl link to the thread I spoke into, and I have to write another explanation of the whole stuff. So I decided to post this article here: to put my functions and explanations in a not-expiring place. If one day my previous threads will be lost, I will tinyurl the link to this page (and then, my italian friends would be better start speaking english, ehehehe). So, in order to create, read and write an INI file, copy the two routines below in a module. Things to know: - INI files are made of sections, which names are enclosed in square brackets into the file (you could open one by the Notepad.exe to see how it is made), and several keys for each sections. Take note that there is no space before equal sign of the key, nor after it: the format is KeyName=Value. In the routines below you have to specify the section, and the name of the key to read/edit in that section.

This is a fairly simple tutorial, but does require some Photoshop knowledge. For this tutorial, we are going to create a group of thumbnail images for a website gallery. So we are going to convert all our images to small jpg’s. Here we go…. First off, we need to do a little prep work. And believe me, this prep work can save you a lot of problems in the long run.

 Create Realistic Clouds  By devdreams

Rate It  | Review
Create Realistic Clouds Create very realistic clouds using a very simple and straight forward technique. Making Realistic Clouds Tutorial submitted by Dev Dreams on 2006-03-07 | Tutorial views: 2187 Vist Website One of the challenges faced by graphic designers and more advanced users of Photoshop is reality. The task of making something look very realistic if not completely real can be quite difficult. In this tutorial however we avoid the difficulty by using a very simplified method to creating realistic and effective looking clouds. Creating clouds is fairly easy to do and this tutorial explains it step by step. Creating Realistic Clouds The first thing we need to do is create a new document in Adobe Photoshop. Im making mine 400px wide and 180pc high although you can make yours whatever you want. Click OK. Now when you have your document open we should, although we dont actually need to set the colour of the background so it looks like the sky. Afterall we are creating clouds so it would be fairly odd if there wasnt a sky. Set your colour to #76B0F0 which is a light blue - you can however use any other colours you want. Select everything using the Marquee Tool (or press Ctrl + A) and select the fill tool from the tools window. Then simply click on on the white document within the bounds of the selected area. Thats the sky sorted. Now lets move on to what your here for - the clouds. Start off with creating a new layer by going to Layer >> New Layer. Call it Clouds and click OK. On the tools window select the Paintbrush tool and apply the following settings: Brush: 18px Mode: Normal Opacity: 100% Flow: 100%; Then just paint on a 'blob' onto your document. This will be your cloud. Thats it your finished. Realistic isnt it! Just joking! We now need to move away from the 'blob' look and turn it more into the clouds look. This is done by using the Smudge tool which is on your tools window. Simply click and drag to smudge the edges of your clouds. You should use a variety of brush sizes when doing this so that it looks more natural and is spread out better. You should end up with something like: Were almost done. Now by now it should look like clouds if not then simply do more smudging and try to get rid of all of the rough edges so it all looks very smooth. Also try to make sure that your cloud isnt just an oval or an exact shape - its not very often that you look up and see a perfect triangular cloud is it ;). To make it that bit more effective however we need to change the opacity of the clouds layer. This lets some of the blue come through the clouds and fades them out a bit. To do this on the layer window, make sure that the Clouds layer is selected and just above you will see a percentage option for Opacity. Im using 45% although it all depends on what you think looks best. If you want some clouds to be more visible than others simply create them on a different layer and set the opacity to a slightly higher percentage. I dont recommend having it aove 90% though. Heres what I came up with: Have fun with your new skills! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- User Comments Viper now thats a realistic cloud! nice work You must register to post comments.
