Preloading images using Javascript is very simple. This method can be used to preload images used in rollovers like the links across the top of this page. (Everything in this tutorial can be seen if you view the source of this page) If the images weren’t already loaded, they would just take longer to appear when the mouse rolled over them – especially on slower connections.
